At a press conference in Germany, UFC officials today officially announced the organization's long-anticipated June 13 show at the Lanxess Arena in Cologne, Germany.

The event, "UFC 99: The Comeback," was originally expected to feature a main event between UFC lightweight champion B.J. Penn and top contender Kenny Florian.

After making his unsuccessful debut at UFC 95 with a loss to the rising star Junior dos Santos, the security of Dutch fighter Stefan Struve's future in the organization is less than certain.  Despite coming off an impressive five fight winning streak, including two wins over former UFC fighters Colin Robinson and Mario Neto, and holding a 16-3 record, Struve may find himself on Joe Silva's notoriously unforgiving chopping block.  Recently, Struve's trainer "Dirty" Bob Schrijber spoke to the demanding details of a UFC contract.

 


· Ken Shamrock vs Bobby Lashley To Face Off At ‘March Badness’

Bloody Elbow has reported that UFC Hall of Famer and former WWE star Ken Shamrock has signed on to fight another former WWE star, Bobby Lashley, at the Roy Jones Jr. promoted 'March Badness'.
The 45 year-old Shamrock (27-13-2), who recently earned a victory over Ross Clifton, will possibly attempt to add one last exclamation point to his career with a victory over the big named Lashley.

In continuing with World Extreme Cagefightings's recent history, Sunday night's event was loaded with explosivness. WEC 39: Brown vs Garcia, which featured a Featherweight Championship bout against Mike Brown and Leonard Garcia, also saw several highly ranked contenders and a former champion compete.

 


· Nogueira vs. Couture at UFC 101

According to published reports, former UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and former UFC Heavyweight Champion Randy Couture have agreed to face off in August of this year, most likely at UFC 101. The bout would mark both fighter's first appearance in the cage since dropping their respective titles to Frank Mir, and Brock Lesnar.

 


· WEC 40 to Include Rafael Assuncao vs. Jameel Massouh

Rumor has it that top featherweight Rafael Assuncao (12-1) will be facing Jameel Massouh (21-4) at "WEC 40: Torres vs. Mizugaki".  Sources close to the bout informed MMAjunkie.com of the addition to the WEC 40 card. 

Assuncao enters the contest on a four fight winning streak, while Massouh has won five in a row.  Massouh's last loss was to Clay French at "AMMA 1 - Adrenaline MMA 1" on 6/14/2008.  Assuncao has a solitary loss on his record to Jeff Curran all the way back on 11/11/2006.

Strikeforce World Lightweight Champion Josh “The Punk” Thomson (16-2) and top challenger “El Nino” Gilbert Melendez (14-2) will revisit their classic, five-round battle when they collide in a rematch for the coveted 155-pound title at Strikeforce: “Shamrock vs. Diaz” mixed martial arts (MMA) event at San Jose, California’s HP Pavilion on Saturday, April 11th live on SHOWTIME (10 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the West Coast).
