· “The Ultimate Fighter 9” Complete Cast List Revealed

The cast for "The Ultimate Fighter 9: United States vs. United Kingdom" has been revealed.  The premiere episode will air on Spike on April 1, 2009.  The season features lightweight fighters (146-155 lb) and welterweight fighters (156-170 lb). According to published reports, there is a significant rule change in effect.  To be considered for the show a potential participant must have competed in at least three professional bouts prior to the tryouts in October of this year.

 


· UFC 96 Salaries Reported

The Ohio Athletic Commission has released the fighter salaries for UFC 96.  Quinton Jackson was the big winner for the night earning $225,000 to show and a $100,000 win bonus.  In addition, both Jackson and Keith Jardine were each awarded the $60,000 "Fight of the Night" bonus. 

 


· Patrick Cote on the Comeback Trail

After being the first opponent in the UFC to bring Anderson Silva into the third round, Patrick Cote's accomplishment was soon elided by a slip that reinjured his knee forcing an end to the bout via technical knockout. 

Cote has since undergone knee surgery, some preliminary rehabilitation, and is nearly ready to get back on the horse. 

 


· Referee’s Performance Sullies Spectacular Night of Fights

UFC 96 is in the books and although it didn't seem all that sexy of a card in the lead up, by Sunday morning the afterglow was still blinding. What was short on names and championships was heavy on action and spectacular finishes. The card delivered big time as one of the more entertaining compilations of tussles and star - making performances. However, not everything on Saturday night was positive.

 


· UFC 98 Main Event Still Up In The Air

Earlier this week UFC finally made an official announcement regarding the Main Event bout at UFC 98 on May 23rd at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Nevada. At that point it, it was announced that Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar and Interim Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir would attempt to unify the two titles. But within a few short hours of that official announcement, the internet began buzzing with rumors of an injury to Frank Mir.

 


· UFC 96 Live Gate and Bonuses Announced

According to UFC president Dana White, this weekend's event in Columbus, Ohio drew 17,033 spectators to Nationwide Arena garnering a live gate of $1.8 million.  In the post fight press conference White referenced a claim from a radio broadcast that the combination of UFC 96 and The Arnold Sports Festival brought in over $41 million to Columbus this weekend.

 


· Dream 7 Official Results

The official results for Dream 7: The Featherweight Grand Prix 2009 are in.  Once again Shinya Aoki has come out the victor for his third consecutive win as he defeated David Gardner via submission (rear naked choke) at 5:58 of the first round.  In the final bout of the night Masakazu Iminari defeated Atsushi Yamamoto in a split decision.  Continue reading for the full results.

· Fight Order for Dream 7 Established

The order of the bouts for Dream's "DREAM 7 Featherweight GP 2009 1st Round" has been announced.  Masakazu Imanari vs. Atsushi Yamamoto will serve as the main event.  The event will take place on March 8, 2009 at Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. 

 


· WAMMA Releases Women’s Rankings

The World Alliance of Mixed Martial Arts (WAMMA) has released their first ever women's MMA rankings.  By their own account the release of these rankings holds historical significance in being "the first-ever major rankings poll for female mixed martial arts"
